Resthaven Launches $2 Million Campaign to Renew Maple Woods Campus

by | August 26, 2025

Resthaven, Holland’s only faith-based, not-for-profit senior living provider, has publicly launched a $2 million philanthropic campaign, Renewing Our Legacy, for an addition on the Maple Woods assisted living campus for the next generation of aging adults.

With over $1.5 million already raised, the campaign supports a $7 million project that will add an additional 24 spacious resident rooms with full bathrooms, modern amenities, and welcoming community spaces designed to meet the needs of today’s aging adults.

“For 80 years, Resthaven has served this community with compassion, dignity, and faith,” said Deedre Schuckert, President and CEO of Resthaven. “This campaign helps us respond to the needs of tomorrow with facilities that reflect the quality and warmth our residents deserve—especially those who have outlived their financial resources.”

The addition to the Maple Woods Cottages located at 49 E. 32nd St. is essential as the population of older adults in the region continues to rise—and because the original Maple Woods structure, built over 70 years ago, was not designed to meet the needs and expectations of many of today’s aging adults. While Maple Woods has served countless residents with care and dignity, and will continue to do so, the physical limitations of the building hinder Resthaven’s ability to care for many aging adults requiring assisted living.

“This isn’t just a building project—it’s about honoring the generations before us and preparing to serve those who come next,” said Rick and Terry Zweering, Campaign Co-Chairs. “We have a personal connection to Resthaven and believe deeply in ensuring its future.”

Campaign Co-Chairs Revs. Case and Leigh Van Kempen added, “Resthaven’s care has touched our family, and this campaign is our way of giving back- to help secure its mission for generations to come.”

A vital component of Resthaven’s mission is benevolent care, which provides support to residents who have exhausted their financial means. Currently, nearly 50% of Maple Woods residents do not pay the full cost of the care they receive. Philanthropic support helps make this possible, and the Renewing Our Legacy campaign ensures that capital investments do not compromise this essential, Christ-centered commitment.

Individuals, families, churches, and foundations across West Michigan have already joined the effort. Their support reflects the same spirit that led representatives from 17 local churches to help found Resthaven in 1945—a spirit of compassion, community, and unwavering dedication to caring for aging adults.
