Resthaven leadership and campaign leaders break ground on the Maple Woods Cottage expansion.
April 16, 2026 — Holland, Mich.
Resthaven celebrated a ceremonial groundbreaking today for the Maple Woods Cottage expansion, marking a major milestone for the organization after philanthropic support for the project surpassed $2 million—exceeding the campaign’s goal.
The expansion is part of Resthaven’s Renewing Our Legacy campaign and responds to the evolving needs of today’s seniors and addresses limitations of the original Maple Woods structure, which was built more than 70 years ago.
“What a glorious day,” said Campaign Co-Chair Rev. Leigh Van Kempen. “Because of a committed group of donors, Resthaven has been able to turn mission into action once again. Grounded in our faith and strengthened by community support, Maple Woods will soon be ready to serve the next generation of seniors.”
Construction on the expansion is being led by CL Construction of Holland, Michigan, which also built the existing Maple Woods Cottage in 2017, continuing a trusted partnership and ensuring continuity in design and quality.
Lindsey Zona, Director of Development, expressed gratitude for the community’s overwhelming support. “When we began the campaign in 2024, this project existed only on paper,” Zona said. “To stand here and see the progress is a powerful testament to what can happen when a community rallies around a shared vision.”
Zona added that the campaign’s success directly supports Resthaven’s mission to provide compassionate, faith-based care while continuing its commitment to benevolent care for residents who cannot afford the full cost of services.
Deedre Schuckert, President and CEO of Resthaven, emphasized the purpose behind the expansion. “At Resthaven, our mission is to glorify God by providing quality care that demonstrates the love and compassion of Jesus Christ,” Schuckert said. “This expansion creates more space for connection, comfort, and community, strengthening our ability to serve seniors with dignity and excellence.”
The groundbreaking ceremony also included remarks from Doug DeLeeuw, Resthaven’s Board Chair, shovel-turning by campaign and Resthaven leadership, and a celebration recognizing the donors, volunteers, trustees, and campaign cabinet members who helped bring the project to this point.
Construction is now underway, with the expanded Maple Woods Cottage expected to open to 24 additional residents in spring 2027.
