Resthaven Care Center is excited to announce “Bringing the Outside, In” a photography competition and exhibit. The goal and purpose of this exhibit is enhance the quality of life for Resthaven Care Center residents by displaying photographs that evoke memories, inspire conversations, and foster connections. Moreover, it offers local photographers an opportunity for recognition and appreciation for their dedication, skills, and support of this initiative.
The 2024 exhibit theme is “Close to Home.” The theme is open to interpretation of the photographer with the following guidance. Ideally, we will see images that reflect the concept of “home” along the Lakeshore. We encourage the capture of more “local” landscapes, points of interest, and events or places of familiarity to Southwest Michigan (Allegan, Ottawa, Muskegon, Kent, Van Buren, Barry, Newago, Berrien, Oceana, and Kalamazoo Counties). This could include subjects as small as macros or close-ups, but could also include patterns found within larger scenes, or things that represent the home of wildlife or even historical homes of humans, so long as they are part of the landscape or represent the cultural character of the area.
The 2024 exhibit will be a juried show with the Honorable Ed Post serving as judge for the competition. With 35 years devoted to landscape and nature photography, Judge Post brings extensive experience leading workshops, conducting photo tours, and a decade-long tenure as a stringer photographer for a local newspaper, covering sports, features, and breaking news. He lectures frequently on nature and landscape photography. His work has been widely published and has received many honors and awards in various contests and exhibitions. Examples of his work can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/edpost/.
Judge Post currently lives in Grand Haven and is a retired Circuit Court Judge and mediator.
