This summer, Resthaven conducted a consumer research survey on senior living in Holland to pursue feedback for a potential expansion for Resthaven called The Farmstead. This exciting project will be located on 40 acres of current farmland located on 24th Street west of Van Raalte Farm in Holland.
The consumer research study is an inspiring glimpse into what the future of senior living could be and how Resthaven can be a leader in meeting the needs of elders in our community. The participants of this survey crafted a vision for a thriving retirement community that will combine the peace of rural, independent living with access to Resthaven’s continuum of services.
Participants of the survey and focus groups shared their thoughts on long-term care options for the future. Quality and access are particularly important in their considerations of retirement communities.
Wellness is another priority for the future residents of independent living, according to respondents. People desire an active community with access to walking trails, activity programs, fitness options, and life-long learning.
The findings from this research study will directly shape what the potential future build will look like and the residence options offered. Many respondents shared that they prefer an apartment with an open design concept. The survey provided detailed data on the layout of that apartment space including number of rooms, kitchen design, bathroom options, etc. Other features explored include covered parking, balconies, and storage.
One participant of the focus group shared, “Wow! I love the vision that Resthaven paints for the future of senior living in Holland. I can’t wait to see the next few years of this project.”
We saw an above-average response rate to the mailed written surveys and also welcomed 107 participants to the focus groups to provide more qualitative feedback on senior living.
