Respecting

Building for
the future.

A legacy of caring.

Founded in 1945, Resthaven began with the vision of 17 local churches to provide compassionate care and a home for older adults in the Holland community. Starting as a single home on the corner of 10th Street and Central Avenue, Resthaven grew over the decades to meet the evolving needs of seniors—staying true to our mission of quality care guided by
Christian values.

Today, Resthaven is Holland’s sole faith-based, not-for-profit organization providing the full continuum of senior care,
including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, subacute care, and home health services.

OUR MISSION
To glorify God by providing a continuum of quality care and services that demonstrates
the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.

OUR VISION
Creating Community and Connection.

OUR VALUES
Know My Name, Hold the Door, Walk with Me.

“I was privileged to be the chaplain at Resthaven for over 22 years… But it wasn’t until both my parents received care from Resthaven that I fully experienced that community!  It’s a legacy of caring that must live on for generations to come. The new Maple Woods campus is the perfect place to start.”

Rev. Leigh Van Kempen,
Campaign Co-chair

As times change, so must we.

The Legacy Building at Maple Woods was ahead of its time when it was built in 1955. As times and needs changed, modifications and additions were made to continually improve the usefulness of the home for thousands of residents over many decades.

Seventy years later, space and design limitations have hindered Resthaven’s ability to meet the needs of many of today’s aging adults needing assisted living. Further renovation is not feasible. The time has come to build a state-of-the-art campus that is functional, practical, and beautiful, beginning with an additional 24 rooms at Maple Woods Cottages.

Needed improvements:

  • WIDER HALLWAYS
  • LARGER LIVING AND COMMUNITY SPACES
  • FULL BATHROOMS IN EACH ROOM
  • IMPROVED TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE
  • IMPROVED EFFICIENCIES
  • ABILITY TO AGE IN PLACE WITH DIGNITY

Preparing for the next generation.

As the population ages, Resthaven will be ready.

People born between 1946 and 1964 represent a seismic shift of the population reaching retirement age. As the baby boomer cohort enters their senior years, they will live longer and have different needs and expectations. There will be challenges and evolving needs for healthcare, social services, regulatory requirements, and a new kind of senior living community.

This anticipated growth of an aging demographic means Holland will soon experience a dramatic shortfall of facilities and services. This underscores our plan to address infrastructure and support systems that ensure that Resthaven is fully prepared to care with compassion and maintain our commitment to caring for those who may have outlived their means—our mission from the beginning.

“Working at Resthaven is more than a job. It’s a calling, a mission, and an honor. If I could leave a legacy of my life’s work, it would be knowing that the seniors of Holland always have a safe, warm,
and loving place to live with dignity.”

Providing the highest level of support and services for an aging population is a costly proposition. Facilities, equipment, technology, and staff require millions of dollars in support on an ongoing basis. Resthaven has a broad range of revenue sources, including public and private insurances and donations from corporations, foundations, and individuals.

As a part of Resthaven’s long-term strategic plan, the vision is to refresh the entire Maple Woods campus to serve the physical, cognitive, and emotional needs of our current and future residents. The Renewing Our Legacy campaign is focused on raising funds for an additional 24 Maple Woods Cottages rooms. This is the first step in helping the Maple Woods campus be more accessible and offer a home environment that meets the needs of the residents we serve, a necessity because of the limitations of the Legacy Building.

Resthaven currently provides over $5 million annually in benevolent care and reimbursement shortfalls to residents who have outlived their financial resources. Those needs will grow exponentially with our aging population. The Renewing Our Legacy campaign allows Resthaven to offset some of the costs of the building project in order to continue to serve residents, regardless of their ability to pay for the true cost of care.

“Why should we raise money to improve the Maple Woods building? For me, It’s not a matter of why. It’s when. It’s just the right thing to do. It’s our shared responsibility to our community—and to all those who came before and after us. To serve them as they have served us.”

Terry Hofmeyer,
resident representative, resthaven board of trustees
